As we travel, we enjoy the lush landscapes of the Black Sea, heading towards Sumela Monastery, Hamsiköy, and Karaca Cave.
Our first stop is Altındere National Park. After a one-hour drive, we reach the park and transfer to minibuses to head up to Sumela Monastery. A short walk through the forest takes us to the monastery, where we are greeted by historic aqueducts and stone steps. Before entering, we take a brief pause to enjoy the views. Then, we explore this magnificent structure carved into the rocks. The Sumela Monastery, with its chapels, student rooms, and guesthouses, offers a glimpse into the medieval past.
After visiting Sumela, we head to Hamsiköy, a charming village surrounded by greenery. Here, we enjoy a local lunch, followed by a short walk through the village. Don’t miss the chance to taste the famous Hamsiköy rice pudding. This village, with its traditional Black Sea architecture and stunning scenery, offers a peaceful break and a deeper connection with the local culture.
Next, we continue to Karaca Cave, passing through the New Zigana Tunnel, the longest road tunnel in Europe. Karaca Cave welcomes us with its stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Exploring the cave’s underground wonders is a unique experience. After the cave visit, we take a short break to shop for local delicacies such as pestil and köme. Our tour concludes with a visit to the Torul Glass Terrace, where you’ll experience thrilling heights and breathtaking views of Zigana Mountain.
At the end of the day, we return to Trabzon. We bid farewell to our guests, hoping to meet again on another adventure.
