Discover a must-see Eastern Black Sea route on a private day trip from Trabzon, with a pace that fits your group. Three main stops shape the day: Sumela Monastery, the panoramic Zigana Pass, and the famous food stop of Hamsikoy Village. You start with pickup from your hotel or a convenient meeting point in Trabzon, then travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle through the scenic Altindere Valley. Because the tour is private, the rhythm of the day is yours. You can extend photo stops, add short viewpoints along the way, and adjust how long you stay at each stop based on your group’s energy.
Your first main stop is Altindere National Park. As you travel through the valley, forests, streams, and mountain ridgelines create a classic Black Sea landscape. Approaching Sumela, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with steep cliffs and deep green slopes. Sumela Monastery is one of the region’s most impressive historical sites, famous for its breathtaking location carved into a rock face. Take your time inside the complex and explore the rock church, frescoes, and monastery structures. With a relaxed schedule, you can focus on viewpoints and photography, or simply enjoy the atmosphere where nature and history meet.
After Sumela, you continue to Zigana Pass, located around 2050 meters above sea level. Wide mountain panoramas open up between evergreen forests and long ridgelines. Zigana is not only beautiful, but also historically meaningful. The pass lies on a corridor connected to the historic Silk Road network, used for centuries by travelers and trade caravans crossing these mountains. Your stop here is perfect for photos and fresh mountain air, and it also adds a sense of the region’s long travel story.
The final stop is Hamsikoy Village, where we take our lunch break. During peak season, the village and restaurants can be busy, which is part of its popularity. Even so, a private tour makes it easier to manage your time and keep the day comfortable. After lunch, do not miss the village’s signature dessert, the famous Hamsikoy rice pudding, enjoyed with valley views and the cool mountain breeze. Then sit back and enjoy a comfortable drive back to Trabzon to end your day.
