After approximately a 1-hour scenic drive, we arrive at Altindere National Park. Access to Sumela Monastery is provided by national park shuttle vehicles followed by a short 300-meter forest walk. Along the way, you will pass historical aqueducts, stone steps, and visitor areas. Before reaching the monastery, we take a short break at the social area where you can relax and enjoy the surrounding nature and views.
During your visit to Sumela Monastery, you will explore its main rock church, chapels, student rooms, library, guesthouse, and holy spring. After the visit, we return to our tour vehicle and continue towards Zigana Pass, where we take a lunch break at a local restaurant along the route.
Zigana Pass, one of the most important passages of the historical Silk Road, has served as a key connection between Eastern Anatolia and the West for centuries. The New Zigana Tunnel, opened in April 2023, is one of the longest road tunnels in Europe and adds modern significance to this historic route. Following this scenic road, we reach Karaca Cave, one of the highlights of the tour, known for its impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and travertine formations. After the visit, we stop at a local factory outlet where famous Black Sea fruit pulp and “kome” are sold.
Our next stop is the Torul Glass Terrace, offering a unique viewpoint experience. Afterward, we continue to Hamsikoy, located along the historic Old Zigana Road. This part of the journey is one of the most scenic sections of the tour. In Hamsikoy, we take a break where you can enjoy the famous local rice pudding and experience the peaceful village atmosphere.
